Home care workers have to officially register as home care support workers by 2020
Did you know that it will be compulsory for all home care workers to register to work in the social care sector by 2020. There are a variety of reasons why the Welsh Government are introducing this new measure from improving professionalism in the care sector, to better standards of care and to ensure all care workers have the right level of training to carry out quality care work in Wales.
Registering as a care support worker means that the care agency you work with will be responsible for teaching you the Code of Professional Practice for Social Care. Care agencies will be responsible in providing care support training so that when you enter the field of care you will be well equipped to carry out quality care work in any given environment.
Registering as a care support worker will also give families and loved ones confidence that high standards of training in care are being given by care agencies such as our own care agency ProCare Nursing.
Mark Drakeford who was the man who first introduced these measures as Health and social services minister (later becoming First Minister of Wales) said:
“The domiciliary care workforce deserves the recognition, investment in training and support from their employers, registration will help deliver this and ensure home care workers have the right training that teaches the skills necessary to carry out quality social care.”
