BBC article reports that half of women will be carers 10 years earlier than men
It was reported by the BBC that women can take on caring responsibilities for older, sick and disabled people ten years earlier than men. Sheffield and Birmingham university have discovered half of women will be in a caring role by the age of 46, however it was revealed that men would take up caring roles by the time they are 57.
The report is not talking about people becoming paid carers but unpaid carers. In the report it stated that two-thirds of adults will become unpaid carers during their life time. This means a loved one may become a carer for their older relatives, for example a son looking after his older dad.
The charity Carers UK has said that adults who are caring for loved ones will need paid leave in order to care for loved ones.

Carers UK have said that workers will need between five to ten days of paid care leave in order to care for loved ones. Carers UK charity un-earthed some interesting statistics, these are:
* 65% of adults had provided unpaid care for a loved one.
* Women had a 70% chance of becoming a carer and men 60%.
* Carers quitting their jobs because of pressure delivering unpaid care
These are interesting statistics and cause for concern. In June 2019 this year ProCare Nursing wrote about the need for 20,000 extra carers by 2030, this is because people are living longer and going on to live well into their eighties. Not only is the health and social care sector going to be in need of carers, the statistics un-earthed by Carers UK shows that many adults will be caring for elderly people unpaid and this will increase.
